About Kukmang > Education & Development

Education
One of the major drawbacks of Kukmang is that like other villages, education facilities are limited therefore the people of Kukmang have to resort to facilities outside in the cities. This results in a temporary shift of families from the village for the purpose of seeking education. Kukmang comprises of only one high school for boys and one middle school for girls. There are a few primary schools as well however all these institutions have limited facilities and require major improvement.

The residents of Kukmang who pursued their education in the cities are now serving at top positions in their relative fields such as medical, military, law, education sector and other public and private sectors. This fact delineates the innate talent and passion for education that the people of Kukmang have. Click here to view some of the notable people from Kukmang who achieved recognition at national and international level.

Unfortunately, families who shift to cities for education purposes, usually have to revert back to the village as living in the city becomes expensive for them. This also highlights that most of the people of Kukmang have limited financial resources due to which their desire to educate their children remains unfulfilled in most of the cases.

The government official authorities are currently ignoring the educational development needs of the village. If this sector is improved in the area and the government provides affordable and improved education facilities to the people in Kukmang, there is no doubt that these people will add value to the country’s wellbeing.

Health Facilities
Another area, which needs serious attention from the government authorities. Kukmang lacks basic facilities of health which could be ascertained from the fact that for the population of more than 20,000 people, there is only one small hospital available and that is also without qualified doctors and necessary equipment. There are, however, few small dispensaries which are established with the efforts of local community in their respective areas, but not enough to provide full medical assistance and treatment.

Mostly, patients who need medical assistance have to go to urban areas like Abbottabad and Mansehra for their treatment. In case of emergency situation, since there are no satisfactory health facilities available in Kukmang, the life of patient is at stake because he or she has to travel outside Kukmang and this situation in some cases causes loss of precious life of the patient.

Development

No major developmental work has been taken place in past except construction of road which connects Abbottabad with Muzzafarabad via Thandiani and that is also with the efforts of Lt. General (Retd.) Muhammad Sabir who belongs from Pathargali, Kukmang. Apart from lack of education and health facilities, people of Kukmang are also far behind in terms of development in their area. Majority of population is still suffering from unscheduled load shedding, which could last as many as 3 to 4 days. Water and sanitation is another problem which needs a very small assistance from the concerned authorities.

As for communication and cellular/mobile coverage, with the efforts of Mr. Akhtar Zeb from Kukmar, a powerful communication tower was installed in the middle of Kukmang and more than 20,000 people (locals/travelers) are enjoying cellular services.

After 2005 Earthquake:

One of the most frightening and destructive phenomena of nature is a severe earthquake and its terrible aftereffects. Pakistan was hit by the worst earthquake in its history on 8th October 2005. This catastrophe has had chaotic aftereffects and has terribly destroyed the beautiful village of Kukmang. Certain immediate steps for the rehabilitation  have already been taken but there are still some areas to which were left untouched.

The people in Kukmang are suffering a lot because of low-standards of education, poor medical facilities, under and un-employment. Due to these factors poverty is gradually increasing. Northern areas are a precious asset of Pakistan; and proper steps should be taken to eradicate these problems and disadvantages existing in these areas.

Attraction for Tourists
Kukmang could be a big asset to the tourism if the government takes necessary steps to attract the investors and tourists by taking advantage of its natural beauty and resources. This will not only help the govt. to generate handsome revenue but also strengthen the local economy of the people. It features all those important ingredients and qualities which are necessary for developing any rural area into modern hill station for the tourists and to add more there is no doubt that this beautiful village provides the most beautiful scenery and natural views than any other tourist spot in Pakistan.
